Building A Better America

Common Sense in America – Has Anything Changed?
Originally published in June 2021 and updated in 2025, this article explores whether common sense has changed in modern America. It reflects on the increasing division among people, questions the potential effects of socialism, and reinforces the enduring values of Christianity and patriotism that support the American Dream. The post also reflects on how immigrants, past and present, came seeking faith, freedom, and a better life in a nation rooted in strength and unity.
Common Sense Defined
Merriam Webster: sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts
Dictionary.com: sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like; normal native intelligence
Wikipedia: sound, practical judgment concerning everyday matters, or a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge in a manner nearly everyone shares.
As you look at the definitions from three of the most popular online dictionaries, you will see a common theme: common sense is sound judgment, no specialized knowledge or training, and the ability to perceive.
Can The Lack of Common Sense In America be a Strategy?
The answer is a resounding YES! Those who would try to turn America into a socialist country think differently. If they plan to change America from a faith—and freedom-based country to a socialist regime, then their actions make perfect common sense to them. I am speaking of those who would remove the freedoms and rights the current administration is fighting to restore.
So Why Is Common Sense In America So Uncommon?
Common sense means having good sense and sound judgment in practical matters. Have you ever heard someone describe something, and all you can think of is, “WHAT? That makes no sense to me!” Sometimes, ideas are not founded in experience and knowledge but in outrageous thinking. People often do things without much thought because they lack common sense. Common sense can make the difference between success and failure.
So I ask, is the lack of common sense in America today a “lack of common sense” or a “strategy”? Think about it.
